The Full Story
वर्ष 1952 की 7 जुलाई, गुरु पूर्णिमा का पुनीत पावन दिन था,जब श्रीमती गीता बजाज ने अपनी बहन के जयपुर के मोती डूंगरी इलाक़े के नायब जी का बाग स्थित मकान, जिसके एक छोटे से किराये के कमरे में वे अपनी नन्ही सी पुत्री के साथ रहती थीं ,की छत के नीचे समाज के दीन-हीन तबके के बच्चों को शिक्षा प्रदान करने के पवित्र कार्य का शुभारंभ किया.
इस महान कार्य के लिए उन्होंने सबसे पहले जयपुर के मोती डूंगरी क्षेत्र में रहने वाले दिहाड़ी मज़दूरों के 4-5 नन्हे मुन्ने बच्चे चुने ,उन्हें नहलाया धुलाया और फिर क-ख-ग और 1- 2- 3 पढ़ाना शुरू किया. वस्तुतः यह एक नितांत साधन हीन शुरुआत थी। गीता जी के पास उनकी दृढ़ शिक्षा इच्छाशक्ति और कुछ कर गुज़रने के जुनून के अलावा कुछ भी तो नहीं था.
जब इस अकेली महिला ने बाधाओं और परिणामों की परवाह किए बिना, स्वतंत्र भारत में एक समर्पित सामाजिक जीवन की लंबी एवं दुष्कर यात्रा की शुरुआत की, उस समय वे रवींद्रनाथ टैगोर के उस संदेश का यथावत एवं अक्षरशः अनुसरण करने की कोशिश कर रही थीं , जो टैगोर ने अपने प्रेरक गीत “एकला चलो रे” में दिया था.
स्वर्गीय श्रीमती गीता बजाज एक महान देशभक्त तथा नेक विचारो वाली एक गतिशील समाज सुधारक और इस महान देश की एक सच्ची नागरिक थीं जिनका व्यक्तित्व एवं कृतित्व हमें सदैव ही यह स्मरण दिलाता रहेगा कि एक साधारण व्यक्ति भी अपने जीवन को कितना उत्कृष्ट एवं उदात्त बना सकता है. उन्होंने अनगिनत बच्चों और महिलाओं की मानसिक सोच,जीवन की दिशा एवं नियति को बदल कर रख दिया, और उनकी वे मानस संतानें सादा जीवन,मानवीय मूल्यों तथा समाज सेवा के प्रति निष्ठा के उनके संदेश को आज भी सारे देश में और देश के बाहर भी फैला रहे हैं.
समर्पित समाज सेविका, गांधीवादी, स्वतंत्रता सेनानी तथा शिक्षाविद के रूप में प्रतिष्ठित श्रीमती गीता बजाज 1936 में मात्र सत्रह साल की कच्ची उम्र में ही विधवा हो गयी थीं. उनके पति श्री गिरधारीलाल बजाज, सेठ जमनालाल बजाज के भतीजे थे,जिन्हें गांधीजी अपना पांचवां पुत्र कहते थे. इस पृष्ठभूमि के कारण गीता बजाज को उनके वैवाहिक जीवन की संक्षिप्त सी अवधि के दौरान, वर्धा आश्रम में गांधीजी के साथ रहने का सुअवसर प्राप्त हुआ.
जन्मजात प्रतिभा संपन्न गीता जी को मिले गांधी जी के सान्निध्य ने उन्हें अपने व्यक्तित्व के अंदर झांकने, उसे बारीकी से समझने तथा उसका आंकलन करने की क्षमता प्रदान की . उनके अंदर सहज धैर्य, गंभीरता, समर्पण, कठोर परिश्रम तथा निस्वार्थ सेवा के गुण सहज ही विकसित होते चले गए. गांधीजी ने उनकी इन प्रवृत्तियों और गुणों को जान लिया था और यही कारण था कि उनके पति के असामयिक निधन पर भेजे गए गांधीजी के संवेदना पत्र में एक ऐसा असाधारण और अद्भुत संदेश समाहित रहा, जो गीता जी के व्यक्तित्व को पूरी तरह से नया रूप प्रदान करने वाला सिद्ध मंत्र साबित हुआ.

As such Smt. Geeta Bajaj had an opportunity to be with Gandhiji at Wardha during her seventeen months of extremely short bliss of married life. Till then, Geeta Bajaj had hardly received any education – she had studied only upto 4th class in her village school.
Gifted with a native’s intelligence, her nearness to Gandhiji gave her a great insight into her own personality. She developed the qualities of quiet fortitude, dedication, hard work and selfless service. Gandhiji had noticed these qualities in her and that is why his condolence note on the demise of her husband was an extraordinary message which ultimately moulded her whole personality.
MOTIVATION : Bapu’s letter
Mahatma Gandhi’s letter to her on the untimely death of her husband Girdhari Lal ji Bajaj which became the inspiration for Geeta Didi to take on education of children and women as her life’s mission.
Gandhiji wrote -
"As is your name, so should your deed be ; the state of being a widow or a married woman are mere terms spoken and accepted by the society. Let your name be fully realized in your deeds".
What followed later in the life of Geeta Bajaj is a grand saga of devotion to a certain cause, which became a perfect example of the teachings of Bhagwat Gita.
Our Institution
The Geeta Bajaj Bal Mandir Sansthan, started simply as play school for tiny tots under the name Bal mandir happy school, is now in the 8th decade of its journey.
Today, the Sansthan has two educational institutions under its umbrella – the Geeta Bajaj Bal Mandir Senior Secondary School (affiliated to the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education, Ajmer) and the Geeta Bajaj Bal Mandir Mahila Shikshak Prashikshan Mahavidyalaya (affilited to the University of Rajsthan and the National Council of Teachers’ Education-NCTE), which together cater to the educational needs of our society.
In its journey of more than seven decades, the Geeta Bajaj Bal Mandir Sansthan is today recognised as one of the foremost institutions in Rajasthan for education of children and women, and its performance is exemplary. The facilities in all classes including nursery, are comprehensive and efforts are continually being made to improve them. Education imparted in the institution concentrates not only an academic excellence but aims at developing a harmonious all-round personality.
Our Founder Late Geeta ji always wanted that the doors of the institution should remain open for children and wards of those families who could not afford education for their progeny, and with the aim of fulfilling her wishes, the Sansthan provides either partial or total fee exemption to almost a third of its total strength in the high school. We are proud to register that our alumni over the years have done well in their lives and a large number of them are well placed in society all over the country.
