Shri Jasdev Singh

Jasdev Singh was the son-in-law of  Smt. Geeta Bajaj, married to her only child Krishna. Born and brought up in Rajasthan, he knew Geeta Ji since a very early age during his time in Jaipur. In his later life, he was better known by the whole country and in fact most of the international broadcast world, as most versatile Hindi broadcaster who had earned accolades from one and all and had been honoured by the nation with the Padma Shri (1985) and Padma Bhushan (2008).

In her final moments, Geeta ji took an assurance from Jasdev Singh ji that he would join the institution after her. This was a very difficult decision for him as it was bound to have a big impact on his independent broadcasting and journalistic career. All his married life he always supported her with the school as much as he could, but whenever Geeta ji asked him  to agree to take full charge of it, he always laughed it off saying “Didi, I married your daughter but not your school !”. He knew that agreeing to her request meant that he would have to move physically to Jaipur, which was near impossible because of his other professional commitments. And yet  in the end, he accepted her request even as she was in a coma simply so that she would go happy and contented to he next life. He faithfully fulfilled this promise in Sep. 1995, moving with Krishna ji to Jaipur and was duly elected as the Joint Secretary of the Management Committee. He had management and broadcasting experience with Doordarshan and All India Radio but  he had never worked in the educational field Despite this major handicap,  but the dedication, commitment, and sacrifice with which she managed the institution is commendable. The high profile of Geeta Bajaj Bal Mandir in the educational world today is very largely due to Jasdev Singh ji’s hard work over the 18 long years he devoted to this institution as Secretary.

The entire country knew him as a highly popular broadcaster and radio-TV commentator who, in his broadcasting career spanning over 50 years, delivered live coverage of nine Olympic Games, numerous Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and hundreds of other sporting events to millions of listeners across the country through his mesmerizing voice and words. Recognizing his invaluable contribution to sports in India and internationally, the International Olympic Committee honored him with the "Olympic Order." For nearly 50 years, Jasdev Ji was the voice that provided the illustrated coverage of Republic Day celebrations on All India Radio and Doordarshan. His commentary was distinguished by its historical significance, geographical details of the location, pictorial descriptions of the natural landscape, and the occasional inclusion of literature.

Apart from two the Padma awards, he was also honoured by the International Olympic Order by the IOC, the highest sports governing body in the world, and at home in India, the Rajasthan Ratna by the Govt of Rajasthan, for his outstanding achievements in the field of broadcasting,
